  1. October 2947 MESSAGE FROM THE CEO Out and About Now, I may have rightly earned myself a reputation for being an unrepentant fan of all things Shubin Interstellar, but believe me when I say that our headquarters on microTech is, in one word, a marvel. Designed by famed architect Rafaelle Wise, the building’s solid foundation and lofty heights are as representational of Shubin Interstellar’s aspirations as they are beautiful. That is why I am so pleased to announce that we are expanding our Digging Deeper training program. Starting next fiscal quarter, twice as many employees will have an opportunity to come to microTech and participate in advanced training across several key disciplines. Please contact your local Employee Resources coordinator to find out more about applying. But as much as I love our headquarters, what may surprise many of you is just how little time I get to spend there throughout the course of the fiscal year. Shubin Interstellar as a company exists well beyond the walls of our corporate headquarters. For close to two centuries now, the extraction and processing of raw materials has continued to be a major focus for us. No surprise then that we operate hundreds of mining stations, refineries and depots across the Empire, as well as several terraforming operations, and are considered to be one of the most expansive corporations currently in existence. To that end, that is why it is so important to me as CEO that I actually get out there to see and experience as much of our day-to-day operations as I can. In 2947 alone, I have visited 34 separate Shubin operations in over 11 systems and gone through a whopping 74 jump points. It is absolutely amazing to not only see firsthand the diversity and variety of our operations, but to realize that no matter where I go, Shubin Interstellar is still one big family. To those of you I had the privilege of visiting with this year, believe me when I say it was my absolutely pleasure, and to those of you I haven’t met yet, just wait. I’m coming. From the desk of, Gavin Arlington, CEO EXTRA CARE A closer look at Shubin and Safety New Simpod Security Drills We are proud to announce the release of a new suite of simpod training exercises designed to prepare Shubin employees for what to do if they should encounter hostiles during the course of their job. Designed in conjunction with acclaimed game publisher Perigree Press, this series of instructional simulations immerses you in several different scenarios and teaches best practices to ensure that you and your fellow employees survive. While there are several sims that incorporate basic combat training, Shubin Interstellar would like to remind all employees of our “Life Matters More” policy which emphasizes that preserving your safety is always more important than equipment and property. Platinum Tier Protocol Updates To go along with our new training exercises, we have also updated our list of sectors which have to follow Platinum Tier Protocols. For those of you unaware, this means that assignments in these sectors can only be undertaken by combat rated vessels or by those accompanied by a Shubin security detail, authorized security contractor or bonded Mercenary Guild member. For a full list of sectors affected, please contact your local Shubin Security office. MIND YOUR MINERALS Some interesting facts about the ore around you. This month we look at … Corundum A naturally transparent mineral, Corundum is a crystalline form of aluminium oxide that is most commonly known for its gem varieties, Ruby and Sapphire, and can be found in a wide variety of colors. Due to its transparency, the pure form of Corundum, which is colorless and scratch resistant, is frequently used in the production of scanners, as a gain material in lasers, and as an affordable alternative to diamond-laminate in spacecraft. One of the hardest naturally occurring minerals, with a 9 on the Mohs scale, Corundum makes an excellent industrial abrasive. It can often be found as a component in polishing compounds, grinders and cutting tools. The famed ‘Heart of Tamsa’ gemstone is a large 812-carat black star sapphire that was discovered in 2945 by former Shubin employee, Gauge Racine. CONTRACTOR CORNER Shubin Interstellar can’t do it alone! Welcome to Northrock Service Group This month’s featured independent operator is Northrock Service Group, who has recently been approved to provide security for our operations in the Stanton system. Dedicated to sourcing only the most qualified, trained personnel, Northrock has a proven track record of providing the highest level of protection. Already, they have had great success escorting survey vessels safely through the system and they are soon to start patrol routes in the sector. So next time you are in Stanton, make sure to welcome the talented individuals at Northrock to the Shubin family. ANNOUNCEMENTS New Growth! Congratulations to Shubin’s very own Doyle Mizushima for discovering a brand new species of lichen! Doyle noticed a scaly, dark orange growth while completing a subsurface scan on Lorona. A passionate amateur mycologist, Doyle collected a sample and soon realized that he had found something very special. After verifying that the lichen truly was unique, Doyle was granted the honor of naming the new moss. His choice? Lobaria shubina. Seems like the Shubin family really is growing! Document Retention To follow up on the company-wide comm sent by Lead Counselor Abigail Soliday on September 28th, please remember that any and all documents, communications, workpapers and files relating to the Dellin Provisional Government of Charon III must be retained and forwarded to the Counselor’s office. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Przeczytaj całość

  4. The X1 Conceptual Approach About Alberto Vara Origin Jumpworks' X1 Transformation Through Experience My time working at Origin Jumpworks were some of the most creatively fulfilling years of my life. I can't imagine any other company that consistently challenges its employees to strive for a new ideal, rather than wallow in the complacency of conventional thinking. The experience and relationships I developed in my twenty years with Origin have continued to define me as an artist, an engineer, and as a person. Ever since I established Infinity Customs, I have incorporated the lessons and practices I learned to my shop. When Origin approached me three years ago and asked to collaborate on a new open-canopy design, I knew I couldn't refuse, because I knew that in our endeavor, we would accept nothing less than the next step in design and engineering. I am proud to unveil the result of that collaboration: the X1. Conceptual Approach Perfect Harmony Between Pilot and Machine When we sat down to begin work on the X1, we began with an exercise taught to me by the legendary ship designer I am pleased to call my mentor, Akira Yedomos. He believed that “only by attempting to reach beyond, could one build for the real world," so the entire team was encouraged to unshackle their imagination and build a vehicle that adhered to as many or as few 'established' rules as they wished. The result was a fast, maneuverable open-canopy racer that's as much of a work of art while at rest as it is in motion. With thrusters seemlessly integrated into the sleek hull, the X1 organically fuses function with form and continues Origin's proud legacy of luxury perfection. Pursuit of Perfection Learn about Alberto Vara and infinity custom Read The Brochure Click To Read Download The Brochure Pledge Option Warbond Editions Pledge Option Regular Editions Additional Details About The Concept Sale The X1 is being offered for the first time as a limited concept sale. This means that the ship design meets our specifications, but it is not yet ready to display in your Hangar or to fly in Star Citizen. The sale includes Lifetime Insurance on the ship hull and a pair of decorative items for your Hangar. A future patch will add a X1 poster and then once the in-game model is finished you will also be given an in-game X1 mini ship model! In the future, the ship price will increase and the offer will not include Life Time Insurance or these extras. If you’d like to add one to your fleet, they’re available in the pledge store until 20:00 UTC October 6, 2017. You can also view a detailed schematic of the X1 in the Holo Viewer in the Tech Overview of the ship page, and be sure to enjoy Origin Jumpworks' X1 brochure. As with every Concept Sale, we will also be doing a Q&A post. There will be a forum thread on Spectrum to take your questions. Make sure to vote for the questions you most want to see answered and we will be posting the dev’s responses next week. Look for the Comm-Link Schedule next week to find out when that post will go up. What Is A War Bond Ship? War Bond ships and packages are a way to directly support Star Citizen's continued development. Ships labeled War Bond are available at a discount, which is possible because they can not be purchased with store credit from melted items. Standard versions of these ships without the War Bond discount are typically offered for purchase using store credits at the same time a concept sale page goes live. Disclaimer Remember: we are offering this pledge ship to help fund Star Citizen’s development. The funding generated by sales such as this is what allows us to include deeper, non-combat oriented features in the Star Citizen world. All ships will be available for in-game credits in the final universe, and they are not required to start the game. The goal is to make additional ships available that give players a different experience rather than a particular advantage when the final persistent universe launches. Przeczytaj całość

  8. The Lioraj Greetings, traveler. The universe is full of uniques stories waiting to be told. We here at the OBSERVIST LIFESTYLE team are eager to provide a firsthand, up close look at the fascinating people who live among the stars and the amazing adventures they have. Today, we explore the Tevarin Lioraj ceremony, an ancient rite that, until this year, had not been performed since the Purge of 2610. Stepping into the open-air grand entrance, I was immediately struck by how different the Temple of Rijora was, compared to the city that had grown around the ancient structure. Even at that early hour, the people of Gemma hummed like a hive of pareas, just as dense and just as focused on completing whatever task they had set out to accomplish. Yet inside the ancient walls of the Temple, a stillness permeated the space like the cool dawn mist that still clung to the intricately carved floor. The sun had yet to rise high enough in the sky to breach the grounds, but the subtle purple glow of the Jalan sky provided enough illumination for me and the thirteen other Tevarin to don our lightweight kiari, a traditional woven mail designed to allow the wide range of movements needed for the ceremony. Even though I’m Tevarin, like many of my people I had never been to our former homeworld. Raised on Borea, I spent my formative years trying hard to show that I was not that different from my Human neighbors and friends. However, with the recent unearthing of the ruins on Kabal III, I have discovered a new desire to learn about the history of my ancestors. So, when I heard that the Tevarin Preservation Society was attempting to recreate a lost ritual, I leapt at the chance to connect with my heritage on a new level. For ancient Tevarin, the Lioraj ceremony was an important ritual used to connect with past ancestors and future descendants. It was believed that by performing a specific series of chants and movements at the Temple when the planet was at a precise location in its orbit, a harmony would be achieved with all those who had repeated the act before and after them, granting wisdom and insight. While the broad gist of the rite has been to known to scholars for years, it was only thanks to a new collection of writings discovered on Kabal III that historians were able to begin piecing together the intricate details and specifics required to perform the Lioraj. For the seven weeks prior to the ceremony, I left my home and moved into a dormitory nestled into the Seven Hills neighborhood only a few blocks from the temple itself. There I was to live and work with my thirteen co-ritualists as we learned the complicated choreography that we’d be expected to perform. A series of ninety-eight distinct poses and tones, each would have to be perfectly executed in order to harmonize fully with Lioraji of generations past and future. Not only would living together allow us to exhaustively practice, but cohabiting would further help us learn to operate as a cohesive unit. Until the ritual we would eat, sleep and groom together. It was strange at first. All my life I was used to being the only Tevarin in the room, but now, everywhere I looked, there were others who looked and moved like me. Cut off from the outside world, I was amazed by how quickly we formed a pack. By week two, our routine was well in place. Several of the volunteers were from Branaugh, and they taught us how to prepare traditional Tevarin meals. Waking at dawn, we would break our fast with narina, a ground mixture of various seeds, grains and nuts, seasoned and boiled into a thick, nutritious bar. Afterwards, we would practice till the sun set. Guided by the historians, every movement was drilled again and again. Even more difficult proved to be the chanting. Unused to speaking Tevarin, the words and tones felt strange and alien. For weeks, my throat was sore as my muscles adjusted to the new demands I was placing on them. I was not alone in this, and soon our conversations were reduced to whispers. Progress was slow and hard earned, but by the end of the first month the effort began to pay off. By now the movements had become almost second nature. We practiced now, not to learn, but to achieve perfect synchronicity with each other. My mind, no longer focused on how high to raise this elbow or where to place this foot, drifted into a meditative state. It was easy to see how my ancestors believed that time collapsed into a single point during the ritual. Already, my days at the dormitory had become a single blur. Before I knew it, the seven weeks were over and the day of the ritual had arrived. A large crowd had gathered at the temple to observe us. Completing a ceremony that hadn’t been enacted in several centuries was a big deal, not only for Tevarin but for the many Humans who had come to embrace the Preservation movement. It was shortly before we were scheduled to begin that the protesters arrived. Carrying signs like “Never Again” and “Keep the Purge,” some were Tevarin who believe that our people’s past should stay buried, while others were members of the anti-Tevarin movement known as Nemesis. According to a statement on the group’s spectrum, they are dedicated to “ensuring that Tevarin never again pose a threat to the Empire.” It is their fear that if Tevarin reconnect with our ancestors that soon we will want to war against Humanity just as they did. However, for me and most of the others, reconnecting with our Tevarin heritage was not about removing ourselves from Humanity, but rather finding our place within society. How could we know where we were going as a people if we didn’t have truer sense of where we had been? In many ways, this is what the Lioraj itself was about: reconnecting with past to connect with the future. I was already nervous to be performing in front of such a large crowd, but now I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to concentrate thanks to the ruckus Nemesis was creating. Clearly this was what they were hoping, too. My heart was pounding and my skin grew rigid, but as the fourteen of us took to our position in the hall and held the first pose, the crowd, protesters included, drifted into the background. I wasn’t me anymore. I was the Lioraji. Together we moved. Our voices rose as one and fourteen sets of feet and hands gave form to the ancient words. Crossing paths, we weaved across the floor and consecrated the space, a warning that the ritual had begun. The pace quickened and the heart of the ceremony took hold as we bathed in the warm light that filled the morning sky of Kaleeth, our people’s homeworld. When we struck the last pose, time hung still for a moment, and then came rushing back with the cheers of the crowd. We had done it. I am not sure if I became one with Tevarin throughout history, but I do know that I grew closer to what it means to be both Tevarin and a Citizen than I ever had before. And that the next time Jalan hits aphelion, I will be back to perform the Lioraj again, along with countless Tevarin before and after me. Przeczytaj całość

  12. Hard Place ADVOCACY ARCHIVE INTRA-AGENCY MESSAGES 2947-08-29_14:27 SET TO: DIR. THOMAS CARMODY CC: AD JOSH SHAW, DEP. AD EMMA THORNE FROM: SC STEFANO CALLIER SUBJECT: XI’AN MEETING Director Carmody, To follow up on our earlier discussion, I just left the meeting with the Xi’an envoys and to say they’re not happy would be a gross understatement. They presented documentation collating evidence of ongoing, weekly attacks targeting Xi’an shipments traveling through Nyx. I’ve attached their document for your records. My staff is currently cross referencing their list against ours to ensure there are no discrepancies. Thankfully, the Xi’an envoys have agreed not to file an official diplomatic complaint for now, but they made it abundantly clear that they wouldn’t hesitate to do so if we didn’t stop what’s going on. I reiterated that Nyx isn’t under our jurisdiction but to them, it makes no difference if the system is ‘recognized’ by the UEE or not. They consider Nyx to be Human-controlled space which, according to their interpretation of HuXa, means that it’s our responsibility to guarantee the safe passage of Xi’an cargo ships. I assured them that we’ve been implementing policies from Tohil that could help stop these attacks, like increased patrols near the jump into Nyx and updated Advocacy signage at refueling stops to advise Xi’an haulers to be wary of attacks. We’re doing everything we can short of entering the system to take care of the problems ourselves. Please advise if you believe there are any further actions my team and I can do to keep this issue from turning into a real diplomatic issue. Sincerely, Stefano Callier Section Chief Advocacy — Tohil System Attachment: XianAttackedShips_Nyx.tbf 2947-08-30_04:08 SET TO: SC STEFANO CALLIER CC: AD JOSH SHAW, DEP. AD EMMA THORNE FROM: DIR. THOMAS CARMODY RE: XI’AN MEETING SC Callier, I’m fully confident that you can find a quick and appropriate solution to this problem. I see you’ll be cycling back to headquarters in a few weeks. Let’s be sure to get some face time when you’re on Earth. I’ll have my office set something up. Thomas D. Carmody Director Office of the Advocacy New York, Earth, Sol 2947-08-31_10:51 SET TO: DIR. Stefano Callier Section Chief Advocacy — Tohil System ___________________________________________________ 2947-09-02_21:40 SET TO: SC JAFFE PORTER FROM: SC STEFANO CALLIER SUBJECT: Rock and a … Hey Port, I need to pick your brain on a pressing issue. Today, another Xi’an shipment got hit in Nyx, and Carmody’s livid. I’m really between a rock and a hard place on this one. He’s told me to solve this issue, but never officially authorized my team to work Nyx. I’m worried that if I task agents for an unauthorized action in unregulated space, then it could be used against me. But if I don’t do something to stop these attacks, then I’m definitely in the doghouse. You know Carmody’s never been a big fan of mine, and I’m worried that he’s hanging me out to dry. He’s already set up a face-to-face next time I’m back on Earth. As someone who’s successfully walked the tightrope for a while, any recommendations on how to handle this without it blowing up in my face? -Stef 2947-09-03_14:33 SET TO: SC STEFANO CALLIER FROM: SC JAFFE PORTER RE: Rock and a … I don’t envy your position, kid, but don’t simply assume this is a set-up. Carmody cares about results above all else and delivering them is the only way to get in his good graces. Trust me, you’ll be sipping some fancyass limited-edition Radegast in that face-to-face if you get this Nyx thing sorted before then. So, consider this a test of your creativity. Even though Nyx isn’t our jurisdiction, it’s still our responsibility to maintain order. Influence doesn’t always mean direct action, though. How connected are you to the People’s Alliance? If word got to them that the Advocacy was ‘considering’ action in the system against these attackers, it might motivate them to do your dirty work. Just a thought. Good luck, -Jaffe 2947-09-04_06:57 SET TO: SC JAFFE PORTER FROM: SC STEFANO CALLIER RE: Rock and a … Appreciate it, Port. Knew I could count on you. Just spoke with a CI on Levski and the ball is in motion. Now it’s time to sit back and see if the People’s Alliance still hate us enough to want to keep us away. Only two weeks until that sit down with Carmody. Cross your fingers that another Xi’an ship doesn’t get hit before then. Carmody didn’t even ask about the Xi’an or Nyx. He just toasted my diligence and hard work before taking that first sip. Meanwhile, I was thanking the People’s Alliance under my breath for doing all the heavy lifting. And of course you too, Port. Couldn’t have done it without your advice. 15. Welcome to Citizens of the Stars, our new weekly program exclusively about you, the Star Citizen Community. Whether through bug reports on the issue council, feedback on the forums, or the creation of content inspired by the game, Star Citizen is only possible because of the community. Citizens of the Stars not only highlights these contributions, but also puts a dev in the hotseat for a round of Quantum Questions, which addresses some fun facts about the dev and game. This week, the Citizen Spotlight explores how GrayHeadedGamer’s interest in cargo hauling got him started as a content creator. 19. Family Reunion Hey sharpshooters, thanks as always for joining us here at OP.NET, the best and only home for non-guild news, tips and reviews — unfiltered and raw. I’m your host, Conva Maynard, and I’d like to give a special welcome to all the new mercs joining us for the first time. Skiv and I had the honor of visiting the BHM Training School out in Cascom last week and giving a talk to their most recent graduating class. There was a bit of a Q&A with the students afterwards and it was really great to have a chance to explain why I choose to operate on my own instead of joining the guild. How being independent is a bit more work, sure, but for me, the freedom to set my own standards and decide for myself what terms I feel comfortable with makes it worthwhile. For those of you not familiar with the school, they offer courses in general tactics, weapon training, boarding procedures, the works. All of the instructors are veterans of the industry and after meeting with the students, I can say the intensive courses they’re offering are a pretty fantastic way to learn the ropes. Especially for those who are looking to go a different route than getting their training in the military like a lot of mercs do. They also offer courses for experienced mercs who are looking to expand and hone their abilities. That’s how I got hooked up with them in the first place. Took a refresher course last year after we did a review of targeting systems and I realized that half the features Skiv mentioned were new to me. Speaking of Skiv, there will be no review this episode because the lucky bastard is attending a super-secret sneak peek of a new ship that one of the majors is unveiling soon. I can’t say anything more than that, but I will cop to comming him about ten times a day trying to sweat more details out of him. Don’t worry though, we have plenty of other great stuff coming up. If this is your first time joining us, you have picked a fantastic show to start on. We’re going to do another edition of PsyOps where we get experts from various fields to discuss the latest tricks and tech for the modern merc. Plus, we have a special interview today with a guest who is very near and dear to my heart, and also the whole reason I’m even your host in the first place. But before all that, we got some new contracts lighting up the Job Board, so let’s take a look. First up, Blackjack Security is looking to take on a few hands to help handle an escort overflow they are dealing with near Crusader in the Stanton System. Recently, there’s been a rash of mining ships attacked by local scrags, and it seems that most of the companies over there are suddenly seeing the wisdom in ponying up for the extra security. They are specifically seeking mercs with combat experience who have their own rigs. Next, we have an exotic escort gig out in the Protectorate. A trade caravan is seeking to staff up a fairly sizeable protection detail to accompany them from Corel to Gliese on a bimonthly basis for a year. They are hoping to hire people for the full stint of the contract, so while you can work other jobs in between, it will make scheduling a bit trickier for a little while. Also, before you ask, they do clearly state on their posting that their business is in no way connected to sentient trafficking, which is always nice to see made plain like that. Last, the good people of Uriel in Oberon are expanding their security forces. The Navy had been maintaining a presence after last year’s Vanduul attacks in the system, but as war efforts concentrate elsewhere, the need for Uriel to provide its own protection has increased. Now, Uriel is a pretty tough place to live, but for the right merc, let’s say one who just graduated, I could see this being a great chance to establish themselves and get some real valuable experience. All right, if you’re interested in any of those, we have the details for all of the Job Board listings up on our spec site. As always, make sure to check out all the specifics carefully for yourself before accepting any work. Now, let’s finally get to that special guest I mentioned. I think it would be fair to say that I’ve been waiting my entire career here for a chance to sit down with her. Please join me in welcoming none other than OP.NET’s own Sabine “Mixer” Murillo. How the hell have you been, Mixer? Mixer: Surprisingly good, all things considered. I will say it’s a bit strange to be sitting on this side. You can have your chair back, if you’d like. Mixer: No, it’s your chair now. I was glad to see that the show was left in such capable hands. Let’s talk about that. Mixer: Me leaving OP.NET? Yeah, exactly. It caught a lot of us, me included, by surprise at the time. What happened? Mixer: To be honest, it caught me by surprise too. Hell, when I started that broadcast, I wasn’t expecting to quit like that. But telling everyone about what happened to Stephan Ganz … I don’t know, I just knew I had to do something to make it right. And did you? Mixer: Not in the way I was expecting. Those first few months in Terra, all I did was try to track down Doormat’s — Ganz’s — killer. The official reports were no help, so I hit the streets. Turned over just about every flophouse around those docks trying to find the lowlife who did it. Got to the point where the corner thugs would start shooting at me on sight, but in the end, I wasn’t any closer to finding out who had pulled the trigger. That sounds frustrating and … and well, kind of reckless. Churning up that kind of trouble couldn’t have been healthy. Mixer: No. It wasn’t. And the worst part was that even after I had a cleared out some ratnest, the very next day it’d be like I hadn’t done anything at all. Slowly, I came to terms with the fact that while someone may have pulled the trigger, it was the Blocks themselves that had cost Doormat his life. The people who wind up there, they can’t help sink lower and lower. Whether it’s drugs or violence or just straight up neglect, everyone there is living on borrowed time. Yeah, places like that, you take down a thug and there’s always ten more waiting to step up. It’s like trying to bail out a sinking boat with a spoon. Mixer: Right. Even if I could find Doormat’s killer, chances are it would be someone who was just as desperate and out of options as he had been. Started thinking that if I couldn’t find justice for Doormat, then maybe the best thing I could do was help see to it that no one else wound up like him. Sounds like you decided to stop acting like a bounty hunter, and start behaving like a real merc again. Mixer: Never thought about it like that, but you pretty much hit the nail on the head. While working the case I had met this counselor who had tried to help Doormat get clean, and with her help I got in touch with some vets who had fallen on hard times. I couldn’t pay credits at first, but offered them food, a room of their own and counseling if they needed it. Most people didn’t want anything to do with me, but there were a few who were willing to take a chance and that was enough to start. I worked out a perimeter line and together we took shifts patrolling a few select blocks. And while we busted up some thugs here and there, I think just having a few people around who were willing to stand up and say “no” made the biggest difference. I get that. A lot people miss the point that most of the time a merc’s job isn’t to fight, but to act as a deterrent and prevent fighting from even happening in the first place. Mixer: Exactly. Confronted with an actual opposition force, a lot of the worst elements retreated, and those that didn’t, we dealt with. Slowly but surely, we were able to expand the green zone. The Blocks still aren’t the nicest place to live, but now at least, for the first time in a long time, the people there have a real shot at turning things around. And for me, the fact that you got to help some vets in need along the way is what makes the whole thing really special. I think Doormat would be touched by this legacy you’ve built in his honor. Mixer: I hope so. Now, if you were as moved by Mixer’s story as I was, there’s luckily a way you could help, and one that doesn’t involve moving to the Blocks yourself. Mixer: Though I wouldn’t say no to the extra hands if anyone does want to come out, the main thing we need is equipment. We have almost no operating budget, and it would make a big difference to us if anyone was willing to donate some armor, weapons or ammo to help our effort out. If any of you are like me, I know you have a few dented pieces of gear just taking up space. Or maybe next time Skiv does a review and you buy some new piece of kit, instead of selling it or tossing it, you could make a big difference by making sure it goes somewhere it’s needed. We have all the info on our site and to make things even easier, OP.NET has arranged with Covalex shipping to cover the cost of hauling your donation out to Terra. Mixer: What? You serious, Maynard? It’s the least we could do for such a great cause. All right, we need to pause here, but we’ve got a lot more great stuff coming up after the break, including a brand new PsyOps. Care to do the honors, Mixer? Mixer: Hold your course, OP.NET is active and unfiltered. Still got it! Przeczytaj całość

  24. The Observist: Sherman, Castra II Greetings, traveler, there are millions of sights to see in the universe. The team at THE OBSERVIST is here to make sure you get the best traveling experience possible. The system of Castra has been vital to the UEE, but not in many of the normal ways. When UPE military pathfinders discovered the system in 2544, they found a pair of planets circling a large blue-white star. It was described as ‘unremarkable’ in its initial assessment. Regardless, the UPE began to process the second planet to act as a training facility and back-up resource cache for Hadrian system, then the point system along what would become known as the Perry Line that borders the Xi’An Empire. To mirror these military designs for the planet, the system was called Castra, using the ancient Roman name for land designated specifically for military use. CASTRA II When Castra II was finally terraformed, Ivar Messer had already ascended to the newly created position of Prime Citizen. He wasted no time allocating resources to build up Castra II as a source of reinforcements for the military at Hadrian as well as a staging area for an invasion into Xi’An territory, should the opportunity ever present itself. When the jump point to Oya system was discovered near the end of the 26th century, Castra ceased being a secondary base; it was now on the front line. Long-range bombers would circle the jump point toward Oya, waiting for a signal to push into Xi’An territory and blast their targets. The Imperator whipped this fear of attack up to cut off civilian traffic into Castra entirely. When the Messers fell, military tensions turned to diplomatic relations. Oya became part of the Empire when the Perry Line was divided into the Transitional Systems. Very quickly, the military on Castra discovered that they weren’t the front line anymore. In 2789, the military scaled back their presence to reopen the system for civilians, even repurposing most of the military structures for public use. INTRODUCING SHERMAN Built atop Ulysses Peak, Sherman served as the primary launch point for the heavy bombers that would maintain a constant vigil near the jump points into Xi’An territory. A majority of the base has now been demilitarized for civilian use, transforming the Navy’s landing pads and mechanic bays into the primary landing zone for traffic entering and leaving the planet. Depending on the time of year, you may see what appears to be a landscape of clouds shrouding the surface of the planet. Poking up through that canopy will be Sherman, a virtual island in the sky. Quick note: you enthusiasts will also probably notice a lot of firepower on your approach: anti-ship batteries as well as a pair of AOV-9 anti-orbital cannons. They may look old, but don’t try to be funny. They still work. The military sold off the landing zone. It changed hands several times over the years until it became a PARKING LOT franchise owned by REEZUS THORN, who also handles the site’s minimal ship repairs. As one of Sherman’s new primary functions is a quick stopover point for travelers, they cluster a lot of their stores near the Parking Lot, allowing pilots to quickly hit up the local TDD office as well as familiar names like FUEL PUMP, HARDPOINT GUYS, APOCALYPSE ARMS and ELEMENT AUTHORITY and be on their way. But there’s a lot more to Sherman than that. Walking among the unmistakable Hennowistic military prefabs of the 27th century, you can’t help but feel a sense of history. Small reminders of the men and women who served here can be found throughout the zone, but none more prominent than in the EDGE OF OBLIVION. The Edge is a small pub filled with actual memorabilia from the era, offering patrons a brief glimpse into the daily lives of the bomber pilots who ran those dangerous missions. Before you leave, you should go to the OUTLOOK. During the day, if the weather’s right, you will find a tumultuous sea of clouds stretching as far as the eye can see. At night, you can see the glow from distant cities seeping up through the clouds, creating diffused pools of light. It’s one of the most magnificent sights to behold on a planet whose history is steeped in fear and aggression. But don’t just take my word for it; it’s really something you need to observe for yourself. Przeczytaj całość
